Prevention Case Study
Supporting People with Learning Disabilities to eat healthier
Project Summary
Share Community delivered an innovative, co‑produced project designed to make healthy eating and physical activity more accessible for adults with learning disabilities living independently in Wandsworth. Recognising that traditional health information is often inaccessible or overwhelming, the project focused on creating Easy Read resources and engaging video content that empower people to make healthier choices with confidence.
By working directly with adults with lived experience, the project ensured that every resource was practical, culturally relevant, visually accessible and grounded in the real needs, abilities and preferences of the community.

Key Activities
Co‑produced instructional video series
Share Community worked alongside adults with learning disabilities to create step‑by‑step videos demonstrating how to prepare and cook healthy meals safely. The videos modelled simple techniques, affordable ingredients and achievable routines, helping viewers build independence in the kitchen.
Development of an Easy Read healthy‑eating cookbook
A fully co‑designed cookbook was created using clear visuals, simplified instructions and supportive prompts. The resource helps adults with learning disabilities follow recipes, understand nutrition basics and build confidence in planning and preparing healthier meals.
Accessible health education through digital channels
The project used online platforms to reach a wider audience, ensuring that people could revisit the content at their own pace and share it with peers, carers and support networks.
Impact and Outcomes
The video content achieved strong engagement, demonstrating both interest and relevance within the community:
Views:
2,168 total views
Impressions:
23,753 total impressions
Engagement rate:
9.12% engagement rate — significantly higher than typical public‑health digital content benchmarks
These metrics reflect not only the quality of the materials but also the value of co‑production in creating resources that resonate.
