We’re working hard to improve your rubbish and recycling and street cleansing services. We listen to what you want, and make it easier and simpler for you to recycle.
Our aim is to create a cleaner and more sustainable borough, giving you pride in your street.

- Increased total town centre cleaning
- 50 new litter bins in areas helped chosen by residents
- A new fleet of modern and environmentally friendly waste collection vehicles which run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), cutting carbon emissions by 90%
- New recycling enclosures on housing estates to make bin areas tidier and recycling for residents easier
- An improved yearly real Christmas tree recycling service, with extra drop-off locations, resulting in a record-breaking 212 tonnes recycled in 2026
We've delivered all this while maintaining the lowest Council Tax in the country.
Caught on camera
As part of our plan, we're also doubling down on fly-tipping. It's unacceptable and we will not tolerate it.
We have recruited additional enforcement officers and increased CCTV monitoring in hotspot areas to help us swiftly identify culprits and issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to offenders. We are proud to be third in the country for our FPN rate.
Check out some case studies of this zero-tolerance approach in action.
- £1,000 fine for Battersea fly-tippers
- Illegal fly-tippers handed £1,000 fine
- Verran Road fly-tipper handed £1,000 fine
The impact
Wandsworth’s recycling rate has increased by 25% thanks to residents’ hard work and the Cleaner Borough Plan. This is the biggest improvement the borough has ever seen.
We now collect the equivalent of one extra recycling bag for every four collected in 2022/23, amounting to more than 9,000 tonnes of additional recycling since June 2024.
What else is coming
We know the hard work is not over yet. We're always listening to your feedback and looking for ways to deliver even better services.
