A Taxicard can help people with mobility problems get around independently. When you want to visit friends or go shopping you can use your Taxicard and a licensed vehicle will pick you up. The scheme is operational 24 hours a day 365 days of the year (subject to availability). If you hold a Taxicard your friends and family can travel with you at no extra charge.
The Taxicard scheme is managed on our behalf by London Councils and is jointly funded by us and Transport for London.
Who is eligible?
In order to be automatically eligible for the scheme you should live in one of the London boroughs and:
- Receive the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
- Be awarded 8 points or more under the 'moving around' activity of the mobility component of Personal Independent Payment (PIP)
- Be registered as severely sight impaired/blind (being partially sighted does not allow automatic entry)
- Receive a war pension Mobility Supplement
You will be required to produce documentary evidence.
You may also qualify if you:
- Have a permanent and substantial disability, which causes an inability to walk or very considerable difficulty in walking.
An assessment by our Mobility Assessor may be required if you do not automatically qualify for a badge.

How much does it cost?
Journeys are paid for partly by us and partly by you, the Taxicard member.
For each journey you will pay the first £2.50, and the Council pays up to £8.50. If the journey cost exceeds £11.00 (your £2.50, plus our contribution of £8.50), then you must pay any costs above £11.00.
Double swiping, which is using two trips and two times the Council subsidy is not permitted.
The yearly limit of subsidised trips is:
- 104 for people without a Freedom Pass
- 52 for those who hold a Freedom Pass.
Maximum Fare Guarantee
The overall cost for any journey is based on a maximum fare guarantee. When you make a booking you will be given a maximum fare for that journey based on a price per mile. At the end of the journey, if the fare on the meter is lower than the maximum fare quoted then your contribution will be based on the metered fare. If the fare on the meter is higher than the maximum fare quoted, you will be charged the maximum fare quoted when you booked.
