These three organisations reflect the Mayor’s career in social care and his commitment to compassion, inclusion, and mental wellbeing across the borough:
- Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees works to create a welcoming environment for those fleeing conflict and persecution. The charity supports refugee families through community sponsorship, advocacy, and local partnerships that help newcomers rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.
- Wandsworth Oasis has been raising funds to support people living with HIV for over 30 years. Through its network of charity shops and community events, the organisation funds local HIV support projects and promotes awareness, inclusion, and health equity.
- Mindworks UK is a mental health charity that provides therapeutic services, training, and early intervention programmes for children, young people, and families. Their work is vital in addressing the growing mental health needs in schools and communities across Wandsworth.
Mayor Ambache said:
"These charities represent the values that make Wandsworth a strong and caring community. I look forward to working with residents, businesses, and community groups to raise awareness and vital funds for these outstanding organisations."
The role of the Mayor
The Mayor of Wandsworth is non-political role that represents the council at community events, celebrates local achievements, and promotes local causes. Each year, the Mayor also champions a few charities, helping them raise money and reach more people.
Over £103,000 was raised under the previous Mayor, Sana Jafri, for her three chosen charities: Home-Start Wandsworth, Rackets Cubed, and Tooting Community Kitchen. The first £50,000 of donations to the Mayoral charities are matched by the council, so a £10 donation becomes £20. Please consider doubling your generosity by giving locally to the Mayor’s causes.
