Residents in Balham were offered a range of ways to make their views heard as part of the interactive event on Saturday. This included a chance for residents to discuss the issues that matter most to them with Simon Hogg, the leader of Wandsworth Council.

Residents were invited to pin their thoughts on maps around the room, and respond to a series of questions on the Balham boards.

Community Safety and cleaner streets were at the top of residents' minds, with discussion centred on Balham Neighbourhood Wardens and improvements to the lighting and design of local bridges.  Residents raised these issues at Balham Brunch in November, and the Council is acting in response to these concerns.

The planned Neighbourhood Wardens initiative involves Wardens patrolling the streets of Balham from March, providing a range of support for residents, from fly-tipping enforcement to tackling anti-social behaviour. They will work in partnership with local businesses, providing reassurance and an easier way to report issues.

Simon Hogg informed the audience of the recent announcement that Wandsworth Council is freezing Council Tax for the fourth year in a row meaning residents will continue to pay the lowest rate in the country.

Advice was also available from officers on a range of council services including housing, waste and recycling, and community safety.

Simon Hogg was joined by members of the local police team, a representative from Neighbourhood Watch and Citizens Advice.

Residents can also share what matters most to them about Balham on the Balham Forum website. Tell the council what you love about the town centre and what you would like to see improved.
