Virtual bedtime stories

Join Wandsworth Council’s Facebook page every Saturday at 5pm for a live-streamed bedtime story, aimed at primary and preschool aged children, with an environmental theme.

And tune in to the Libraries Facebook page for a programme of daily activities, also aimed at younger people.

Saturday 6 June

Marli's Tangled Tale is a true and gentle story about the global problem of balloon releases and plastic rubbish. Aimed at primary and preschool children, this book invites readers to question the impact of plastic on our environment. Marli's Tangled Tale will inspire children to make changes to the world around them. Published by Wild Tribe Heroes.

Marli’s Tangled Tale will be read by Michelle Parkes, co-founder of Plogolution, better known for organising community clean-ups.

Saturday 13 June

The Lorax is the original eco warrior and his message still rings loud today in this fable about the dangers of destroying our forests, told in the trademark rhyme of the irrepressible Dr Seuss.

Saturday 20 June

Nelson’s Dangerous Dive explores deep underwater with Nelson the Whale where he discovers a hidden shipwreck and learns that what lurks below may not let you go. As he desperately signals for help, luck is on his side as a group of brave tourists give him the break he needs! Published by Wild Tribe Heroes.

Saturday 27 June

Greta and the Giants retells the story of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Greta Thunberg – the Swedish teenager who has led a global movement to raise awareness about the world’s climate crisis – using allegory to make this important topic accessible to young children.

This inspiring picture book by Zoe Tucker and Zoe Persico will be read by Lucinda, one of our Balham librarians. Check out the Libraries Facebook page for daily online content.

If you have haven’t recently accessed the borough’s library service, there’s a huge amount available to Wandsworth residents online. Enjoy free audio books, e-books, music downloads, live activities and ideas for entertaining children at home.

Schools can also access free teaching resources to support the Wild Tribe Heroes books - Duffy’s Lucky Escape, Marli’s Tangled Tale and Nelson’s Dangerous Dive.
