Refugee Week 2025

From 16 to 22 June 2025, we proudly joined the national celebration of Refugee Week. The theme this year is ‘Community as a Superpower’.

Refugee Week is a UK-wide celebration that recognises the contributions and resilience of those seeking sanctuary. It’s a time to come together, learn from one another and celebrate the power of community.

Throughout the week, a variety of events and activities will showcase the warmth, unity and support that exists across our borough.

Small grant scheme

We recognise the key role the voluntary and community sector plays in helping to deliver this welcoming environment for those building new lives in the borough.

To support local participation, we offered small grants to community groups and organisations to host events and activities during Refugee Week 2025.

These grants were designed to empower local initiatives that promote understanding, inclusion and support of sanctuary seekers.

Events

There were a range of events and activities. Each one was a chance to connect, reflect and celebrate the rich diversity of our community.

Borough of Sanctuary

This Refugee Week also marks one year since Wandsworth became a Borough of Sanctuary - a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to welcoming and supporting those fleeing war, persecution and violence.

We are proud to be a place where everyone seeking sanctuary can feel safe, supported and valued. We stand in solidarity with sanctuary seekers and we honour the vital contributions they make to our community.
