Request removal of a non-regulatory sign
In August 2024, we audited the condition of 45,000 traffic signs in Wandsworth as part of our Traffic Signs and Lines Renewal Programme.
The aim is to improve road safety, provide clear and concise signage (warnings, information, requirements, restrictions, or prohibitions), and ensure road users can complete their journeys safely, efficiently, and within the law.
The programme includes removing unnecessary, repetitive, or redundant signs and upgrading or replacing faded or outdated signage.
Decluttering initiative
We have identified 1,108 non-regulatory traffic signs that can be removed as part of our decluttering programme. In addition, residents are invited to submit requests for the removal of non-regulatory signs.
Non-regulatory signs provide guidance, information, or warnings to road users without enforcing legal penalties, such as road maintenance signs, detour signs, or directional information.
How to request removal
To submit a request for removal, complete the form.
Make sure it is a sign that can be removed. The following signs are regulatory signs that cannot be removed:
- Stop signs
- Give Way signs
- Compulsory and prohibited movements
- Prohibition of traffic
- Pedestrian zones
- Speed limits
- Bus lanes and gates
- On-street parking controls
You will need to:
- Select the traffic sign on the interactive map or enter a postcode or street name
- Describe the sign, choose the appropriate option from the drop-down menu, and state the reason for removal.
- Sign is considered duplicated on the same street
- Sign is considered obsolete
- Sign contains incorrect or outdated information
- Sign shows incorrect or outdated directions
The map will be updated regularly.
After you submit
Once submitted, an engineer will review your request to ensure there are no regulatory or safety concerns.
If you provide your contact details, we will notify you in writing of our decision.
