Types of secondary schools

There are 11 state-funded secondary schools in Wandsworth. There are various types of schools and within these there are also different types of places available.

Types of secondary school

  • Community schools - schools or colleges where the Local Education Authority (LEA) is responsible for the admissions policy
  • Foundation schools - schools or colleges where the governors are responsible for the admissions policy
  • Voluntary aided schools - denominational schools or colleges where the governors are responsible for the admissions policy
  • Independent schools - schools for which parents pay fees
  • Academies and free schools - state-funded independent schools where the governing board/academy trust are responsible college for the admissions policy
