Dockless hire e-bikes and e-scooters

We manage the increasing use of e-bikes and e-scooters in the borough through dedicated parking bays and a dangerous parking enforcement scheme.

Use of rental e-bikes and e-scooters

Many journeys are now being made in Wandsworth using rental e-bikes, with Lime and Forest currently operating in in the borough. In the 12 months from July 2024 to July 2025, around 7.7m trips were made on these bikes in Wandsworth and around 100,000 different people are now using the bikes each month in the borough.

In May 2025, we joined Transport for London’s (TfL’s) e-scooter trial, introducing Lime and Voi e-scooters for residents to use as part of our commitment to making it easier for people to travel in cleaner, greener ways. Read more about the TfL e-scooter rental trial.

Both rental e-bikes and e-scooters offer residents a convenient way to get around, more sustainably. This means less reliance on cars for short trips, helping to cut carbon emissions, improve air quality and reduce congestion.

Dedicated parking bays

To curb inconsiderate parking, we have installed 170 dedicated on-street parking bays for e-bikes and e-scooters.

Where to park

In our busy town centres, rental e-bikes and scooters can only be parked in the dedicated parking bays.

Town centre areas are those located around:

  • Clapham Junction Station and St John’s Road
  • Putney High Street
  • Balham High Street by the station
  • Tooting Broadway tube station and down Mitcham Road
  • Tooting tube station
  • Earlsfield
  • Southfields around the station
  • Wandsworth Town by the station
  • East Putney by the station

Outside our town centres, if there is an e-bike/e-scooter parking bay within 100m, users must park Lime and Forest bikes in the bay. In addition, Lime and Voi e-scooters must always be parked in a dedicated bay, and these e-scooters follow strict safety standards, including speed caps, always-on lights, and licence checks for e-scooter riders.

In Autumn 2025 we will be consulting on a new batch of dedicated e-bike and e-scooter parking bays, with the plan to install these later this year. Residents will be consulted on the locations prior to final decisions on locations being made.

Suggest new locations for parking bays

If you’ve got a suggestion for where new e-bike or e-scooter bays should be installed, please email transportation@wandsworth.gov.uk.

Your feedback helps us plan better, greener journeys for all.

Dangerous parking enforcement scheme

On 1 September 2025, we started a new scheme to remove and impound rental e-bikes and e-scooters dangerously obstructing pavements or roads.

Council officers are working to safeguard pedestrians by using their powers under the Highways Act to remove and impound e-bikes and e-scooters that block access on pavements and roads. This includes any that are:

  • Lying across the road, preventing other road users from passing safely
  • Positioned on the pavement in a way that forces pedestrians to step into the road to pass
  • Likely to fall over, posing a risk of injury to pedestrians
  • Placed in the road in a manner that endangers drivers or pedestrians

Any e-bikes or e-scooters that are impounded are taken to a secure depot and operators are required to pay a set fee to recover them.

Report a dangerously parked e-bike or e-scooter

Officers are patrolling the borough Monday to Friday to monitor for any of these issues and will also respond to online reports from the public.

You can report a dangerously parked e-bike or e-scooter to us.

We work closely with operators to ensure they strengthen their enforcement and safety practices to keep pavements safe, clear and accessible for all.

You can also report poorly parked or damaged e-bikes and e-scooters directly to operators:
