Road safety education and training

For details of the following training programmes email roadsafetyofficer@wandsworth.gov.uk.

Pedestrian training

Pedestrian training for school children years 2 to 6, with the focus being on years 2 and 3 (i.e. ages 6 to 8). Sessions are carried out off-site, in small groups, by a member of staff. Each session takes around 40 minutes.

Road safety talks

We conduct road safety talks aimed at Nursery and Reception children. Each session takes 25 to 30 minutes and is carried out in the classroom as a carpet session.

The sessions include songs, stories and pictures. The session covers holding hands, stop, look and listen and wearing a seat belt. Sessions can be adapted in order to accommodate older children.

Road safety shows

We have commissioned customised road safety shows for Primary and Secondary schools in Wandsworth, as well as a show aimed at the elderly.

The shows cover a variety of road safety topics from crossing the road safely to being visible at night. Schools or social clubs wishing to book a road safety show should contact us.

School crossing patrol

The job of a School Crossing Patroller is to help children to cross roads on their way to and from school.

Whilst we no longer directly fund the School Crossing Patrol service, we do approve and review sites, recruit, train and supervise patrollers and manage the day to day running of the service. For more information, contact us.

The Children's Traffic Club London (CTC London)

This is a Transport for London programme for pre-school children  for use at home and in nurseries. It provides stories, songs, games and interactive resources with key road safety messages for children, parents and carers.

Nurseries and parents have to register their children to get access to online educational resources and a pack.

If your child attends nursery, please check whether the nursery has registered.  If so, they should be able to provide you with a pack and a code for your online registration.  If not, you can register your child individually.

Visit The Children's Traffic Club London website to register and for more information about the programme.

Scooter training

Free scooter training for children aged 4 to 7 years is available for schools with up-to-date School Travel Plans. The sessions include activities to develop the children’s skill and control when scooting as well as highlighting key road safety messages and consideration for others.

For more information or to request a scooter training session for your school, email the School Travel Plan Team: schooltravelplans@wandsworth.gov.uk
