Engagement in Clapham Junction

We have designed an inclusive engagement programme that combines targeted and open activities.

Our approach to engagement

People have the right to be involved in decisions about their places. Good quality, effective and consistent engagement leads to better design outcomes, ensures shared facilities are needed and well used, and builds trust and buy-in.

The Clapham Junction Community Panel (CJCP) brings together 22 local residents, business owners, and community representatives from diverse backgrounds to meet monthly and provide informed feedback on the masterplan.

Alongside the panel, we are hosting community meetings open to everyone, creating space for dialogue, Q&A, and collaborative activities.

We also use Commonplace, an online platform for sharing views and staying updated, and will continue to run future consultations as the project progresses - ensuring ongoing opportunities for local voices to shape the future of Clapham Junction.

Community Panel

The Clapham Junction Community Panel (CJCP) aims to ensure that the voices of residents and key community members are directly involved in shaping the future of the area, ensuring that the masterplan reflects the needs and aspirations of local people.

After receiving over 40 applications, in July 2025, we selected a diverse panel of 22 people. The  group includes local residents from a range of backgrounds, experiences, and interests. The panel includes young people, representatives of local groups/societies and local business owners.

What's involved

The Community Panel are meeting monthly on site in Clapham Junction between July 2025 and March 2026, to take part in a range of activities designed to encourage accessible participation.

Through workshops and discussion, the CJCP draws on the collective knowledge and interests of its members to provide informed, constructive feedback to help shape the design work being undertaken by the design team including WW+P Architects and Jas Bhalla Works. So far, sessions have been supported by guest speakers from Network Rail, Shopstop, and our Development Viability team.

This feedback will play a key role in guiding the development of ideas and strategies for the masterplan. The meetings last about 2.5 hours and are focussed on collaboration and ensuring all voices are heard; the panel’s input is crucial in shaping the direction of the project.

All sessions are chaired by the independent chair, Gurmeet Sian. Gurmeet is an award-winning architect and founder of Office Sian. The participants are paid London Living Wage for attending each meeting.

Community meetings

Alongside the Clapham Junction Community Panel we will be holding three community sessions that are open to everyone who wants to learn about, and contribute to the future of Clapham Junction.

These community sessions are designed to broaden the conversation - to bring in new perspectives, lived experiences, and local insights that can challenge and enhance the work led by the design team.

What we heard

During March 2024, we hosted a drop-in event targeted at Clapham Junction's business community. The event was held in Battersea Library to give locals a chance to informally meet the design team and ask any questions during this early stage of the project.

On Wednesday 29 October 2025, over 80 local people gathered at St. Peter's Church in Battersea to take part in the first community meeting for the Clapham Junction masterplan. The event was hosted by our Policy Planning team, chaired by Gurmeet Sian and featured key speakers who shared insights into the future of Clapham Junction.

  • Cllr Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, spoke about the intentional shift in engagement strategy and emphasised the vital role of community voices in shaping the area’s future.
  • Kate Neill-Sneller, Senior Sponsor from Network Rail, provided an overview of the station’s history, current challenges, and long-term ambitions.
  • Gesine Junker from WW+P, the lead consultant for the masterplan design team, presented the options explored during stage 1 of the masterplan.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session and a group activity, where attendees contributed their views, priorities, and suggestions for Clapham Junction’s development.

The meeting provided an important platform for community voices, ensuring that local perspectives could play a role in shaping the design team’s output.
