New Sleaford Street Health Centre opens for Nine Elms residents

The new health centre provides a modern home for Battersea Fields Practice’s services to this neighbourhood, replacing its smaller, older branch surgery at Thessaly Road and giving local NHS services more room to grow.  The Practice will continue to deliver services from its Austin Road facility.

The Sleaford Street building, within the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea opportunity area, helps ensure local health services meet the needs of both existing residents living in the nearby Patmore, Savona and Carey Gardens estates, as well as new communities moving into this growing area.

The new centre provides modern facilities for an extended range of primary care services, including face-to-face and virtual appointments, and enables community health providers to deliver services locally with 22 consulting rooms and multiple treatment spaces.

Wandsworth Council has provided the majority of the £15m funding for the Sleaford Street Health Centre using contributions the council has collected from local developments. The delivery of the centre has involved cooperation between NHS South West London, Wandsworth Council, Battersea Power Station, Peabody, NHS Property Services and Battersea Fields Practice.

“This new facility provides modern space for GP services and community healthcare, helping residents access high-quality care closer to home.

Dr Sarah Morgensen, Lead GP at Battersea Fields Practice, said:
“We’re really pleased to be welcoming patients to our new Sleaford Street site. It is a significant improvement on our previous premises, providing a more spacious and comfortable environment for patients and staff.
 
“Most importantly, it gives us greater flexibility to expand the services we offer and work alongside other local health and care organisations, helping more patients access the care they need closer to home.”
