Over the last four months, Wandsworth Council has been carrying out essential works to keep the bridge safe and in good condition for everyone who relies on it every day.
The works included repairing and waterproofing the bridge deck, widening and resurfacing pavements, installing stepped cycle tracks on both sides of the bridge and resurfacing the carriageway. Improvements have also been made to the junction and bus stop at Jews Row.
Councillor Nick Austin, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
“It’s great news that we have completed these essential works under budget and weeks ahead of schedule.
“Wandsworth Bridge is one of our most important river crossings, carrying thousands of people every day. I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we worked hard to get the bridge fit for the future.”
The bridge remained open to two-way traffic throughout the works, helping to keep traffic moving across the river.
