As Heathrow launches an official consultation into proposals for a 3rd runway, we're holding a public event for Wandsworth residents to find out more about what the plans mean and make sure local voices are heard.

Our free council event on 10 November is organised to give residents an opportunity to understand Heathrow Airport’s proposals for expansion and consider what they could mean for them and the borough. The views and concerns raised by residents will directly feed into the council's official response to the consultation.
On behalf of residents, Wandsworth Council remains firmly opposed to Heathrow expansion and the construction of a third runway. We don’t believe the claimed economic benefits have been shown to justify the increased noise, disturbed sleep, reduced respite and wider environmental and transport pressures that expansion could impose on residents and businesses here.
Heathrow’s own data recorded an average of 437 overflights a day in Battersea in mid-August 2026.
'We'll continue to challenge proposals'
Cllr Robert Morritt, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “Expansion of Heathrow would have a substantial impact on people’s lives – so we’re standing up for Wandsworth residents whose homes, health and quality of life could be directly affected by these proposals.
“We agree with the now-Prime Minister’s comments from 2019, when he said was in favour of tough decisions at a national level and he didn’t believe there should be a third runway at Heathrow.
“Millions of people already live with aircraft noise throughout the day and night and we will continue to challenge proposals that will mean more noise and further disruption.
“I’m extremely disappointed to see that Wandsworth’s residents are not included in Heathrow Airport’s own consultation events. People who live and work here must have a meaningful opportunity to understand and scrutinise Heathrow’s plans – so our event will openly discuss the issues, help people ask informed questions and make sure local experiences are heard.”
