Earlier this term, children across Wandsworth enjoyed a very special visitor when the NSPCC’s friendly dinosaur mascot, Pantosaurus, came to schools and nurseries to share the Talk PANTS message.

Through simple, age-appropriate rules, Talk PANTS helps young children build confidence and understand that their body belongs to them, and that they should always speak to a trusted adult if anything makes them feel worried or upset.

The PANTS rule stands for:

  • Privates are private
  • Always remember your body belongs to you
  • No means no
  • Talk about secrets that upset you
  • Speak up, someone can help

Almost 200 Talk PANTS resource packs, including a Pantosaurus storybook, lesson plans, display materials and guides for parents, were shared with schools, nurseries, children’s centres, childminders and libraries across Wandsworth thanks to the NSPCC.

One of the highlights of the week was Pantosaurus’ visit to Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School on 16 October. Children there joined in fun activities that helped them learn the PANTS rule in a memorable and engaging way.

Charmaine Lee, Headteacher of Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School, said: "Holy Ghost Catholic Primary school welcomes Talk PANTS as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child in our care. The NSPCC’s Talk PANTS initiative supports our families to have simple, age-appropriate conversations that gives their children the confidence to keep themselves safe."

Judi Gasser, Wandsworth’s Cabinet Member for Children, said: “Protecting children from harm is our top priority, and Talk PANTS is such a powerful way to start these important conversations early. By working with our local schools, we’re making sure that young people in Wandsworth understand their rights, feel empowered to speak up, and know that help is always there if they need it.”
