Increasing collections for flats above shops in busy town centres from once to twice a week is the latest addition to Wandsworth’s Cleaner Borough Plan, which aims to improve rubbish and recycling services and make streets tidier to help residents feel pride in their streets.

It follows wider improvements, such as:

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "As a listening council, we’ve heard residents in flats above shops when they’ve told us they struggle with limited bin space.

“This new service gives them an extra collection day, making life easier while helping keep our streets clean for everyone.

“It’s another step forward in our Cleaner Borough Plan, and we’re proud to offer it while maintaining the lowest Council Tax in the country."

Since June 2024, the council has collected almost 8,000 tonnes of extra recycling thanks to residents’ hard work and the Cleaner Borough Plan.
