This year’s event was the biggest yet and is part of Wandsworth’s commitment to being a listening council – one that values resident voices at the heart of decision-making.
Aydin Dikerdem, Wandsworth Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, welcomed attendees with a powerful message about the importance of grassroots participation and the informal spaces where real change begins.
The Resident Participation Team led a session on empowering residents to shape their communities, while the Metropolitan Police shared strategies for tackling anti-social behaviour.
Attendees explored topics including Community Clubrooms, Community Gardens, and navigating Housing Online. Organisations including VCS partners, Chelsea Kicks, repairs contractors, London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police all set up stalls to share their work, connect with residents, and build new partnerships across the borough.

Council tenants and leaseholders, who make up nearly one-third of Wandsworth’s population, played a central role throughout the day. From consultation exercises to informal chats over coffee, their insights and experiences helped shape conversations around housing, safety, and community development.
Aydin Dikerdem reflected on the event’s success:
“The Residents’ Conference is always a highlight, but this year’s turnout and energy were truly special. I’m proud to be part of an event that truly reflects the spirit of our borough - one rooted in participation, collaboration, and community.”
The Council will be using feedback and ideas gathered during the conference to inform future policies and initiatives. Residents who attended are encouraged to stay engaged through upcoming forums, consultations, and community projects.
