Job seekers can sign up now for the next round of the Retail and Hospitality Programme from Wandsworth Work Match. The programme gives residents the skills they need to start a career in Wandsworth’s retail and hospitality sector.

With more and more leading employers arriving in Wandsworth, and the festive season coming up, the need for retail and hospitality staff has increased.

The five-day programme gives participants the opportunity to learn about the types of roles in the sector, explore vacancies available, receive tips on interview preparation and receive a level one qualification in Leisure, Hospitality and Tourism.

As a result of the programme, Work Match has arranged 130 interviews for participants which has resulted in 64 job offers to date.

One of the participants to complete the programme and receive a job offer was Peter Griffith. Peter previously worked as an estate agent but after completing the Retail and Hospitality course, he got a job as a brand ambassador for the electric car brand Polestar.

He said: “I am thrilled to be working again and happy to work in such a modern and clean environment, with plenty of opportunities for networking and development.”

Retail and Hospitality programme tutor, Sue Fraser said: “The programme and training empower the learners to understand the directions they need to take and identify the tools required to start a career in a public facing role.”

Deputy Council Leader Kemi Akinola said: “Work Match does a fantastic job giving local people the skills they need to succeed, and matching them up with local jobs opportunities. We want jobs in our growing leisure, hospitality and tourism sector to go to Wandsworth residents, so please get in touch with Work Match to see how they can help you."
