Join the opening of the new soft play area at Putney Leisure Centre

The day promises festive fun, free activities, and a welcoming space designed for little ones to play, learn, and explore.

The new soft play area has been created to provide a safe, enriching and inclusive environment for children under five, encouraging creativity, movement and joy. Packed with sensory stations and imaginative play corners, it’s the perfect place for toddlers to climb, crawl and discover.

This temporary installation is just the beginning, a permanent soft play area for under-fives is planned for summer 2026, and families are encouraged to share their feedback to help shape the final design.

The project forms part of Wandsworth Council’s £24 million investment in improving leisure facilities across the borough. It also supports Wandsworth’s Year of Play and the Wandsworth Moves Together strategy, which aim to make it easier for local people to stay active and enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We’ve listened to residents who asked for more play opportunities in Putney, and this new soft play area is one part of our answer.

“Play and movement have never been more important for children’s development. We’re proud to deliver this for local families and by offering free access for Access for All members, we’re ensuring that play remains open, inclusive, and welcoming to every family.”

Opening event

The opening event will take place on Friday 5 December from 10am to 12.30pm.

Join us for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a morning of festive fun, including:

• Free soft play sessions (these must be booked in advance)
• Special guest appearance by Mrs Claus
• Face painting and festive activities
• Bouncy castle
• Colouring competitions
• Free refreshments

There is no need to book, unless you would like to book a slot for one of the free soft play sessions which will be running from 12 noon to 6pm.

Access for All members can always enjoy free sessions, as part of our commitment to making play accessible for everyone.
