Do you have an inspiring idea for an eco-focused project that can make a difference in your community?
Wandsworth’s Climate Action Microgrants programme is open to community groups, charities and individuals – with the next round of applications welcomed until 28 November.
Eco fairs, repair cafes, recycling events, gardening workshops and even a mud kitchen are just some of the projects funded so far by the scheme.
The grants provide community groups, charitable organisations and individuals with funding from £100 to £500 for projects focused on climate change and sustainability.

Kemi Akinola, deputy council leader, said: “Wandsworth’s Climate Action Microgrants programme gives a boost to fantastic green projects in our local communities.
“I know there are so many grassroots community initiatives out there focused on sustainability and this is your call to sign up for funding.
“We’re excited to hear your ideas, whether that’s getting the community together to improve your local green space, helping learn repair skills or running an environment-focused event. Apply now to help make a difference in your community.”

Community successes
Wandsworth’s climate action microgrants have been supporting some fantastic community projects, such as a vibrant eco fair organised by Roehampton Wellbeing for Women and Children that welcomed 100 visitors to learn about sustainability.
At Fayland Children’s Centre, a climate action microgrant helped transform its garden, where Furzedown Community Network and the 4th Streatham Sea Scouts joined forces to give the green space a makeover.

Overhauling the centre’s mud kitchen, repairing wooden structures and adding new soil and vegetable plants gave the garden a new lease of life.
“This is a valuable area for early years learning, especially as many of the children attending the centre don’t have access to gardens,” explains community volunteer Sarah Forester.
“It was a fantastic collaboration across the community; the Sea Scouts learnt new skills and had a great time. The young children and their families now have a lovely new environment that that is safe to learn and grow in.”

We’ve helped directly fund 37 projects so far this year through our Climate Action Microgrants programme.
These included the first ever Southfields Yard Sale Trail, and the Balham Big Green Fair, as part of Wandsworth’s Sustainable September.
How do I apply?
It’s easy to apply for a Climate Action Microgrant to support your inspiring ideas for projects around climate change and sustainability.
We’re looking for projects that engage the community with the environment.
That could mean helping reduce pollution and improving air quality or encouraging sustainable skills such as repair, upcycling, and energy saving.
Other ways your project could make a difference are through improving biodiversity and local nature conservation or helping people and nature adapt to climate change.

You can submit your project through our online application form, or share a spoken video application with us by emailing togetheronclimatechange@wandsworth.gov.uk
