Avis has fostered for 40 years

At last Friday's Annual Foster Carers Reception held at Wandsworth Town Hall (17 November), special awards were presented to those who had made a real positive impact on the lives of Wandsworth's children and young people.

One of the night's recipients was Avis Bent who has devoted 40 years to caring for 80 children and young people.

Avis said "Being a foster carer is one of the most rewarding things that I could’ve wished for. I would like to thank my family and friends who have supported me over the years, as well as the amazing staff and the management team from Wandsworth and my fellow foster carers for their support"

Joining the evening's celebration was Cllr Kate Stock, Cabinet Member for Children's Services; Cllr Juliana Annan, Mayor of Wandsworth; Cllr Sheila Boswell, Chair of the Children's Committee and Fostering Panel Member; and Ana Popovici, Director of Children's Services.

In recognising the hugely positive impact that foster carers have had for Wandsworth's children, Cllr Stock remarked, “The tireless energy with which you have cared for and supported children in Wandsworth is admirable and humbling. I’d like to say a huge thank you for everything you do to give them a safe place and consistency, when they need it most.

"Your kindness will be a secure foundation in their lives, and so on their behalf and from all of us, we thank you for the amazing impact you have made and will continue to make to change lives for the better.”
