Dementia affects memory, thinking and everyday functioning, and currently impacts more than 800,000 people across the UK. While not all dementia can be prevented, growing evidence suggests that healthy lifestyle changes may help lower risk. In fact, up to 45% of dementia cases are linked to factors we can influence.

Residents are being encouraged to stay active, eat a balanced diet, maintain a healthy weight, stop smoking, manage blood pressure, reduce alcohol intake, look after their hearing, and stay socially connected.

Stopping smoking is one of the most effective steps people can take and quitting at any age can help improve both heart and brain health.

Wandsworth residents and workers aged 15+ can access our free Stop Smoking Service for personalised support, nicotine replacement therapy and proven help to quit for good.

As part of the week, the Wandsworth Health Bus will offer advice at two locations:

  • Tuesday 19 May – Gwynneth Morgan Day Centre, East Hill
  • Friday 22 May – Springfield University Hospital

Residents can also access support through local dementia services and partner organisations.
