Women entrepreneurs dazzle at Enterprise Evening

The winners of this year’s Wandsworth Women’s Enterprise Awards have been announced.

The awards were part of this year’s Women’s Enterprise Evening, which celebrates women starting up and growing their own businesses, and gives women entrepreneurs an opportunity to network, attend talks and workshops, share their experiences and get tips from top female business leaders. 

Well over 100 female entrepreneurs from Wandsworth attended this week’s event, organised by the council’s business support team and hosted at The Arding Rooms in Clapham Junction.  

Guest speakers included business journalist Bex Burn-Callander, Alison Buchanan, international soprano and Creative Director of Pegasus Opera Company, and speaker and writer Emma Boardman.  

The Women’s Enterprise Award winners were:  

  • Best Start up – Sangha Studios
  • Best Cultural Champion – Arches Lane Theatre
  • Best Creative Enterprise – Fee Uhssi
  • Best Community Champion – Sahar Beg, Mindworks UK (Highly commended: Chantelle’s Community Kitchen)
  • Entrepreneur of the Year – Lauren Weston Kidz4 

Winners chosen by a public vote were 

  • High Street Hero (retail) The Fairy House (Highly commended: Wishlist) 
  • Best Food and Drink Business - Frankie’s Brownies
  • Best Beauty & Wellbeing Business - Dr Vee Aesthetics 

Winners included organisations reflecting Wandsworth’s year as London Borough of Culture.  Arches Lane Theatre hosted Wave Writers, playwriting workshops funded by a council Black History 365 grant. Fee Uhssi, who delivered creative wellbeing workshops, also received a BH365 grant, and Chantelle Bent from Chantelle’s Community Kitchen is a London Borough of Culture Champion. The London Borough of Culture team won a special recognition Cultural Legacy Award.

Deputy Council Leader, Kemi Akinola, attended the event and congratulated the winners and nominees. She said: “Our year as London Borough of Culture has been about transforming lives and creating opportunities. These inspirational women show how much talent, dedication and innovation our female entrepreneurs possess, and we are grateful and proud for the difference they make in our communities.”
