Access for All breaks down barriers and makes sure all residents have an equal chance to access local opportunities, with discounts and offers on sports and leisure, education, great days out and other essential services. It is the best concessionary scheme in the country.
The 100,000 bookings comprise over 93,000 discounted visits to Wandsworth’s leisure centres, plus more than 7,000 free or discounted tickets for cultural and community events, as part of Wandsworth’s year as London’s Borough of Culture. The impressive number demonstrates enthusiasm for the scheme since it started in July 2023.
The scheme has gained around 250 new members a week since the start of this year, with more than 11,000 residents now receiving 50-100% discounts across a wide range of activities and opportunities.
In addition to one-off bookings, eligible residents can access discounts on art and digital skills courses, e bike usage, allotment fees, weddings, and swimming lessons, to name a few.
The milestone comes just a few months into the Council’s new leisure contract, which will provide excellent, modern facilities both within leisure centres and across the wider community. This includes a significant investment over the next four years to deliver improvements to leisure infrastructure.
Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council said:
“Wandsworth is a borough of opportunity, and we want every resident to be able to access everything Wandsworth has to offer. Access for All is removing barriers for local people and ensuring everyone, regardless of income, can benefit from the high‑quality leisure and cultural opportunities on offer in Wandsworth.
“From the start this scheme has been about levelling the playing field so people can live healthy, fulfilling lives no matter their background, and the take up of these opportunities show that it’s working.
“Meanwhile our continued investment in leisure services means all residents can enjoy modern, accessible facilities, all while Wandsworth continues to maintain the lowest Council Tax in the country.”
