This road is one of the borough’s busiest cycle and bus routes, so these improvements are creating a safer and better route for everyone, while maintaining the existing road layout with no impact on road capacity.
At night, from Monday 9 March to Friday 20 March 2026, Wandsworth Council will resurface the section between Chelsea Bridge and Queens Circus. Works will take place on weekday nights (8.30pm–5.30am) to minimise disruption during the day.
To safely deliver the works, Queenstown Road will be closed overnight during working hours, except for resident access which will be maintained, with the road reopening early each morning. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
The resurfacing marks one of the final pieces of the Queenstown Road corridor scheme upgrade, which has included significant pedestrian and cycling safety improvements. The existing carriageway is in poor condition and completing the resurfacing now will significantly improve the safety and journey for all road users.
Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “This resurfacing is the final step in our ambitious improvements to Queenstown Road and part of our wider Decade of Renewal investment in Wandsworth’s streets. We’re carrying out the works at night to minimise daytime disruption. Thank you to residents and businesses for your patience as we deliver these lasting improvements for Battersea.”
