Funded by Wandsworth Council through the Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan, the improvements have turned the site into a high-quality, inclusive environment featuring dedicated Early Years play areas, adventure play equipment and a new multi-use games area.
The enhanced space has been carefully co-designed with children and parents to support both the school day and wider community access, creating more opportunities for local children, families and community groups to be active and play close to home.
The project formed part of Wandsworth's Year of Play and reflects the ambitions of the Wandsworth Moves Together strategy, recognising the vital role that play, sport and welcoming public spaces have in supporting children’s wellbeing, physical health and social development.
Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Children, said: “This new playground is a great asset for Battersea. We know how important safe, accessible places to play are for children’s physical and mental wellbeing.
“By investing in spaces like this and opening the school gates after hours to local families, we’re helping to create stronger, healthier communities.
It’s fantastic to see this part of the borough benefiting from high-quality facilities that local families can enjoy for years to come.”
The Council worked closely with Falconbrook Primary School to ensure the design supports long-term community use while meeting the needs of pupils during the school day.
Sarah Pieniek-Jones, Headteacher at Falconbrook Primary School, said: “We’re delighted to see our playground transformed into such a vibrant and welcoming space for our pupils and the wider community.
“Outdoor play is a vital part of children’s learning and development, and these new facilities give our children more opportunities to be active, creative and social throughout the school day.
“Opening the playground for community use outside school hours is something we’re particularly proud of. It means local families can also benefit from this fantastic space, helping to strengthen the connection between the school and the neighbourhood.”
A local parent said: “We are so happy with Falconbrook’s new playground, our children deserve to have a safe place to go and play outdoors together in this community.”
The new playground represents a significant investment in local play, sport and community wellbeing, ensuring that high-quality facilities are available not only to pupils but to the wider community. It forms part of a wider programme of investment in play across the borough, including estate playground refurbishments.
Published in September 2025, the Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan sets out the council’s ten-year commitment to place-based investment in the area, including projects to improve green spaces, support young people and enhance community facilities alongside building new homes.
