Work to repair the gate has been ongoing, but a full closure to vehicles is needed to complete the stone restoration. As a specialised Grade II listed heritage site, all work must be handled carefully and approved accordingly.
Albert Gate will be temporarily closed to all vehicles from 4 March to 8 April to carry out the essential repair works.
During this period pedestrians can continue to access Battersea Park via this gate and cyclists will need to dismount when coming through the gate. All vehicles requiring access to the park should enter via Chelsea Gate or Rosery Gate.
Albert Car Park will also be closed for the duration of the works and visitors can park in Chelsea Car Park or Rosery Car Park as alternatives.
Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “It’s vital that these repairs are carried out with the utmost care.
“We understand how much Battersea Park means to residents, and we’re committed to restoring the stonework and reopening the iconic Albert Gate to vehicles as soon as possible, whilst ensuring the health and safety of all visitors. “In the meantime, pedestrians can continue to use the gate, and vehicles can continue to come into the park by using the alternative entrances.”
