Every Saturday and Sunday, the much-loved Battersea high street will become a bustling, traffic-free space – perfect for meeting friends, enjoying al fresco dining, and discovering local shops.

This season kicks off in style with the Northcote Road Summer Festival on Sunday 12 July from 11am, setting the tone for a summer of community and culture.

First introduced during 2020 and 2021 to support businesses through the pandemic, the scheme quickly proved popular with both locals and businesses.

The news of its return has been welcomed by local businesses, including David Shaw, who runs The Flower Stand and said the pedestrianisation “brings a whole new lease of life” to the area.

Councillor Tom Pridham, Cabinet Member for Opportunity, said:

“Northcote Road is the vibrant heart of the community - a welcoming, family-friendly hub of independent businesses and a place where people come together to relax, connect, and spend time together. We are delighted to bring back the weekend pedestrianisation over the summer, supporting local businesses while once again transforming Northcote Road into a destination for both residents and visitors.”

What to expect?

Every weekend from 11 July until the late August bank holiday weekend, the streets will be closed to traffic from 6am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, turning the area into a pedestrian-friendly space, with restaurants and cafés using the street space for additional outdoor seating.
