By more than doubling the annual investment in our roads and pavements, we’re investing a record-breaking amount to renew roads and pavements across Wandsworth this year, making ours the biggest resurfacing programme of any borough in London.

It’s all part of our Decade of Renewal, our long-term plan to improve neighbourhoods, create pride in our streets, and make travel around the borough safer, easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
The funding includes:
- £10.25 million from more than doubling our annual investment in roads and pavements, this extra investment is paid for by property developers
- £650,000 from the Department for Transport for roads and pavements repairs
- £200,000 from Transport for London (TfL) to resurface Garratt Lane, awarded through a competitive bidding process.
Jenny Yates, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “This is the biggest investment in roads and pavements anywhere in London, and we’re working hard because building pride in our streets matters. Wandsworth should be safe and easy for everyone to get around.”
The largest portion of the programme is funded directly by the Council. This includes proactive repairs, preventative maintenance, and a significant uplift in resurfacing to improve conditions for everyone using our streets.
The £650,000 we’ve received from the Department for Transport supports borough-wide roads and pavement repairs programme, part of the government’s national allocation to local authorities. The funding can be used to fix potholes, resurface roads and cycleways, mend broken pavements, and look after bridges, tunnels, retaining walls and other structures.
Seen a dangerous pothole near you? Report it to us, and we’ll fix it within 7 days, part of our 7 rings 7 days guarantee.
The £200,000 secured from TfL is specifically allocated for A-roads on the Borough Principal Road Network (BPRN), our most heavily used roads. This is the second time in three years we’ve successfully bid for the full funding allocation. The stretch of Garratt Lane between Burntwood Lane and Summertown, including the roundabout will benefit from this funding boost.
By combining additional investment paid for by property developers and successful bids for external funding, we’re helping improve the borough while delivering value for money.
