The project demonstrates Wandsworth Council’s focus on ensuring schools have the facilities they need to support every pupil and respond to changing needs over time.

Delivered in phases, the project has provided six new classrooms, an extended Refectory with additional dining and assembly spaces and accommodation that enhances the school’s ability to deliver a broad, inclusive education.

The completed expansion gives Saint Cecilia’s additional high-quality space to support teaching, learning and school life now and in the years ahead.

The school has remained fully operational whilst works have taken place, thanks to careful planning that minimised disruption. The new classrooms were built using modern modular construction methods with sections manufactured off-site before being craned into position, significantly reducing construction time on the school grounds.

Pupils said: “The new classrooms are bright and modern and having more space makes a difference during our school day. It feels like the school is continuing to invest in us and our future.”

The completed expansion also showcases the Council’s approach to delivering high quality, sustainable public buildings. Features including solar panels, air source heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation, air quality monitoring systems and high levels of insulation improve energy efficiency while helping to maintain comfortable learning environments throughout the year, including during periods of hot weather.

The building was also highly commended in the Church Times Green Building Awards 2024.

Councillor George Crivelli, Cabinet Member for Children, said: “Every child deserves to learn in an environment that encourages ambition, confidence and achievement.

“This investment gives Saint Cecilia’s the space and facilities to support its pupils today and plan positively for the future.

“By investing in modern, sustainable school buildings, we are helping young people to thrive and giving our schools the foundations to continue delivering excellent education for generations to come.”

Renata Joseph, Headteacher at Saint Cecilia’s, said: “These outstanding new facilities will make a difference to the daily experience of our pupils.

“They will support learning, creativity and personal development, helping us nurture each pupil’s talents while preserving the caring, ambitious ethos that makes Saint Cecilia’s such a special place.”

Parents of students attending the school said: “It’s wonderful to see investment in the school. The new facilities create an even better environment for learning and it’s reassuring to know pupils will benefit from these improvements for years to come.”

The expansion strengthens both teaching and wider school facilities, ensuring Saint Cecilia’s is well placed to build on its strengths and continue developing its offer for pupils.
