Have your say on policy proposals to help shape Heathrow expansion plans

Wandsworth residents, businesses and local organisations are encouraged to directly respond to the government’s consultation on a policy framework that could shape the future of Heathrow Airport.

The consultation is seeking views on the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement, which would provide the planning framework used by Government to consider any future application to expand Heathrow Airport. Responses must be submitted by 1 September 2026.
The consultation is an important opportunity for people across Wandsworth to make their views known on proposals that could affect communities across south-west London.
The draft policy statement reflects the Government’s tests for Heathrow expansion, including economic growth, climate change, air quality and noise.
More flights overhead likely with proposed third runway
It also outlines the government's preferred scheme for the expansion of Heathrow with a third runway and associated terminal infrastructure. This scheme would increase the number of flights to and from Heathrow by 260,000 additional flights per year - an increase of more than 50%.
Although the new flight routes are not yet confirmed, it is likely that Wandsworth will experience significantly more flights overhead if a third runway is approved. This would reduce existing arrangements for 'respite periods' of no overhead flights for many residents in the borough.

We are preparing the council’s response to the consultation and also encouraging residents, local organisations and businesses to read the proposals and submit their views directly to the government.
We’re also making printed copies of the consultation documents available locally at Putney Library, Balham Library and Wandsworth Town Hall to help ensure as many people as possible can see the documents and take part.
