Got a great idea for how to improve access to sports and physical activity for residents across Wandsworth?

Your initiative could benefit from a cash boost of up to £5,000 through the latest round of our sports development grant fund.

Sports clubs, community groups and schools have already received support to bring inclusive opportunities for physical activity to hundreds of local people – and we’ve got £285,000 to kick start even more sporting journeys.

Jasmine Nkoso received a sports grants from a previous funding round by Wandsworth Council and urged others to apply.

“The Wandsworth Sports Grant Fund gives you a lot of opportunities,” said the 16-year-old athlete, who trains at Tooting Bec Athletics Track and has been supported to compete at national and international level.

“I would encourage anyone to apply for the Wandsworth Sports Grant Fund, whether you’re just starting out or trying to reach the stars because I honestly think that sport is a big part of life and it’s where you build a community.

“I started doing athletics when I was 12 and it gives me a lot of joy. At the track I can socialise and create a community with everyone and really get to talk to new people that I wouldn’t have met any other way.

“The grant from the Wandsworth Sports Grant Fund has really helped me with my athletics journey.”

What do the grants cover?

The grants are split into two categories, covering community access as well as grants specifically designed to boost opportunities for inclusive access for women and girls.

Grants for new sports programmes and activities are worth up to £5,000 each, while grants to pay for infrastructure projects and work that improves physical facilities or equipment have no maximum amount.

Previous recipients of other sports and physical activities grants across Wandsworth have included Tooting-based Pure Football Academy and Roehampton Wellbeing for Women and Children have launched free sports sessions for youngsters, while Rosslyn Park FC is bringing rugby to local girls.

Beatrix Potter School in Earlsfield is transforming an underused concrete sports area into an all- weather multi-use games area (MUGA), while other grants have included confidence-building girls’ circus skills sessions in Battersea.

How do I apply?

The sports development grants programme is now open and will close on 25 August 2026, with decisions made within six weeks of the closing date.

You can apply directly through the Wandsworth sports development grants website.

Ethan Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We’re delighted to be opening our Wandsworth sports development grants to residents, community organisations and charities this summer, and we can’t wait to hear your exciting ideas for improving opportunities for physical activity across the borough.

“We’ll be sharing thousands of pounds of investment to make sure all our Wandsworth residents can access sport and physical activity in a way that is fun, safe and inclusive for all.

“Whether you’re a sports club wanting to launch a new programme aimed at women and girls, a community group planning a series of engaging wellbeing sessions for those in need, or a school needing to upgrade your equipment, now is the time to apply.”
