Team Wandsworth enjoyed a successful year at Europe’s largest annual youth sports event, entering 25 competitions and giving hundreds of local young people the opportunity to represent their borough in sports ranging from football to aquathlon.

The season got off to a flying start, with the Wandsworth Girls’ team securing a remarkable victory in the Cross-Country event. That early success set the tone for the season and was followed by further standout achievements, including the Girls’ Para-Athletics team retaining their top position at the athletics meet.

Other highlights included a third-place finish for the Boys’ Volleyball team and a strong campaign by the Netball team, who qualified for the highly competitive finals weekend.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, attended the finals day and commended the athletes for their effort and performance. “Finals day was a wonderfully enjoyable event, with Wandsworth teams showcasing talent, determination and teamwork. “Competing at the Olympic facilities in Stratford was a great experience for our teams. The London Youth Games are a fantastic example of how sport teaches young people discipline, commitment and the value of working together, lessons that extend well beyond the pitch or court. Our young athletes have improved significantly this year, and we’re excited to build on this momentum in 2026.”

In Wandsworth, the London Youth Games align with two key local initiatives, The Year of Play and Wandsworth Moves Together. Both are central to the borough’s vision to make play, physical activity, and community wellbeing a regular part of daily life for all young residents. These strategies support the Council’s ambition to become London’s most active borough and are reflected in the enthusiasm and achievement shown by our young athletes.

Wandsworth’s strong showing at the London Youth Games highlights the power of sport and community.
