The council’s dedicated jobs service Work Match marked its ten-year anniversary with an event at its Clapham Junction offices today.

Work Match staff and people who have been helped by the service turned up to celebrate the success of the jobs brokerage service alongside Leader of the Council, Simon Hogg and Deputy Leader Kemi Akinola.

Since it was set up in 2013, Work Match has supported over 2,500 residents into work including more than 700 into apprenticeships.

Kemi Akinola, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for the voluntary sector, business and culture, said: “It was a pleasure to join the Work Match team today to celebrate their tenth anniversary. In that time they have done a brilliant job building a network of employers and helped so many people get into employment and training.”

“It’s all about making the borough fairer and ensuring that the opportunities opening up in the borough benefit Wandsworth residents.”

Work Match links up borough businesses looking to recruit staff with local people seeking jobs or apprenticeships. Jobseekers can register for free to be ‘matched up’ with suitable roles, as well as receiving pre-employment training, interview coaching, guidance with applications and ongoing support once they find work. It also runs the popular Employ Wandsworth jobs fair each year, giving job seekers a chance to talk directly to local employers.

The aim is to put Wandsworth residents in pole position to make the most of local opportunities and provide a commission-free service to local businesses to provide them suitable and qualified candidates for jobs.

It also enables local people to find work close to home – cutting down on journey times and transport costs.
