This upgrade is part of Wandsworth Council and Places Leisure’s £24 million investment in leisure, swimming and sports centres across the borough to create welcoming, inclusive spaces that support health and wellbeing for all residents.

Improvements include:

  • New and modern Life Fitness cardio machines and Hammer Strength equipment
  • A cutting-edge innovative and intelligent EGYM fitness hub providing an insight into your key body metrics to help you develop smart, personalised workouts
  • A new Box 12 Hub for functional and boxing-inspired training
  • A refreshed gym layout designed to improve flow, accessibility and training space

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We’re committed to investing in our leisure centres to ensure residents have access to modern, high-quality facilities that support active and healthy lifestyles.

“The improvements at Latchmere Leisure Centre, which follow the launch of the new soft play area at Putney Leisure Centre last month, are a fantastic example of this commitment in action.

“We will work with users of the centre, to ensure all facilities and services are of a high standard, always seeking to improve and progress.

“I’m also proud that through our Access for All scheme, eligible residents can enjoy all the benefits of this new gym, and services in our other leisure, swimming and sports centres, for free or at a discount, ensuring everyone can benefit from these exciting changes.”

The works support our commitment to helping people move more, feel better and live healthier lives as part of its Wandsworth Moves Together strategy.

Ed Lane, Contract Manager at Places Leisure, said: “We are delighted to see another phase of our investment works completed, this time at Latchmere Leisure Centre. Since opening the newly refurbished gym, we have enjoyed welcoming many of our existing as well as new members through our doors.

“We are continuing to work closely with Wandsworth Council to deliver investment which we believe will transform the leisure services for residents and provide more opportunities for the local community to be physically active.”

Places Leisure was re-appointed last year to operate and manage eight of the borough’s leisure, swimming and sports centres, following a competitive tender process.

As well as improving, enhancing and modernising facilities, Places Leisure will launch a new Active Communities programme to encourage inactive residents to move more, and continue to support Access for All, Britain’s best concession scheme, which offers members 50% to 100% discounts on key leisure services such as gym and swim.

Last month, the council and Places Leisure unveiled a vibrant new soft play area at Putney Leisure Centre for children under five, fitted with Soft Play equipment, including sensory stations and imaginative play corners.
