As part of Wandsworth’s ongoing Apple education project, local schools were invited to design the Leader’s official Christmas card using digital tools on iPad.
Hundreds of entries were submitted, and the winning card was created by Phoebe, Year 5 from Brandlehow Primary School. Phoebe then adapted her original card artwork to fit the Apple Christmas tree template and her tree became one of the commissioned designs to be displayed on the chimneys.
Phoebe’s winning design, along with Yeva’s, Year 5 from Sacred Heart Primary School, will appear in the showcase alongside trees created by well-known artists and public figures including Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE and competition host Munya Chawawa.
Their work also sits among the 24 winning tree designs that were selected as part of the competition inviting the nation to design a Christmas tree on iPad. All trees are being projected across Battersea Power Station’s river-facing chimneys and wash towers as part of Apple’s festive display.
Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Children, said: “We are incredibly proud of Phoebe and Yeva. Their creativity, skill and confidence in using digital tools show exactly what our partnership with Apple is all about, giving young people the chance to express themselves and develop future-ready skills.
“Seeing their work projected onto one of London’s most iconic landmarks will be a moment the whole borough can celebrate.”
Natalie Caraccio, Headteacher at Brandlehow Primary School, added: “Phoebe’s design blew us away from the start. She has a wonderful eye for colour and detail and adapting her card for the Apple template was a challenge she embraced with real enthusiasm.
“We’re thrilled to see her talent recognised on such a big stage.”
Since launching our partnership with Apple in 2022, the programme has grown to support 26 Wandsworth primary schools with world-class technology, teacher training and creative tools.
As previously announced, the programme will expand again for the 2025–26 academic year, with six more schools, and two SEND resource bases, joining the initiative so even more children can develop the digital skills they need for the future.
Wandsworth Council congratulates both pupils for their outstanding achievements and looks forward to celebrating their work in lights this Christmas.
