The Sustainable September events calendar is now live – check out the full programme here.
Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Join us in celebrating Sustainable September as our communities come together for this incredible month of green initiatives.
“There is an activity for everyone, and the vast majority are completely free to attend. Whether you want to find out more about living sustainably, immerse yourself in the natural world or simply meet new people and have fun, Sustainable September is for you.
“This is a chance to come together, share ideas and gain inspiration for all the ways we can make a difference by taking climate action in our communities.”
Festival highlights
Festival highlights include the Balham Big Green Fair on 6 September, Paradise Cooperative Harvest Festival in Wandsworth on 7 September, the Sustainable September Saturday Spectacular on 13 September and the 10th anniversary of Southfields Harvest on 27 September.
Nature lovers can get involved in a bat spotting walk on Wandsworth Common, a tree trail through St George’s Park, or explore the borough’s blue and green corridors in a series of open walks.
An upcycled fashion show, recycled plastics mosaic art project and yard sale trail will bring inspiration for reusing items, while an array of repair and recycling cafes will take place borough-wide.
At the Ashburton Estate in Putney, the Boyd Court clubroom will be transformed for a community event on 12 September featuring a book and CD swap, gardening, a coffee morning and tabletop sale.
Explore the forest garden at the University of Roehampton, find out how St George’s Hospital is tackling climate change and biodiversity loss, and get hands-on trying traditional fruit-pressing at the Furzedown Project.
Battersea Arts Centre is hosting an immersive installation called Capture the Forest from 25-28 September, exploring access to nature by merging sculpture, ceramics, sound, film and movement as part of this year’s London Borough of Culture’s accessible Liberty Festival.

Wandsworth’s first-ever Sustainable September last year engaged more than 4,500 attendees across 69 community-led climate action events – and 2025 is set to be even bigger and better.
We have helped directly fund 15 of the Sustainable September events through our Climate Action Microgrants programme, with a total cash injection of more than £5,000 for the successful projects.
It’s part of our commitment to climate action leadership, which has been recognised with an ‘A’ rating in the international environmental CDP awards for the third year in a row.
