Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, and the Mayor of Wandsworth Jeremy Ambache joined residents, partners and community groups today (6 August) to celebrate the transformation of this much-loved green space, shaped by feedback from the local community.
The resurfaced ball court has been reconfigured for both basketball and netball, giving young people and sports groups a flexible, professional-standard space to train and play. The new outdoor gym includes equipment such as cross trainers, pull-up bars and rowing machines, all free to use and open to everyone.
These improvements were designed especially with teenagers and young adults in mind, offering more reasons to get active in a safe, social and welcoming space.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We’re proud to have transformed Garratt Park into a space where people can move, play and feel connected. These improvements help make healthy lifestyles easier and more enjoyable. Whether you’re here to play basketball or netball, use the gym or just enjoy the surroundings, this is a park for everyone.”
This is part of our Wandsworth Moves Together strategy, which is all about encouraging residents of all ages to move more and enjoy the many ways our parks and public spaces can support health and wellbeing.

Listening to what matters most to you
These upgrades were informed by two rounds of public consultation, where residents asked for better sports facilities, more outdoor gym options and enhanced planting. We listened, and the result reflects what the community told us they wanted to see.
New planting across the park has been designed to support pollinators, boost biodiversity and attract visitors, with volunteers from the nearby allotment site and GoodGym lending their time and expertise to help bring the beds to life. Visitors will also spot a new welcome board at the main entrance, sharing the park’s history and showcasing what’s on offer today.
