Wandsworth Shopmobility is based at the Sainsbury’s store in Garratt Lane. It is a scheme operated by registered charity Wandsworth Community Transport.

It supports local people with limited mobility do their weekly shop by picking them up from their homes in specially equipped minibuses and ferrying them to the supermarket and other shops in the town centre.

Upon arrival there are electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs offered free of charge and if needed volunteers who can provide assistance and accompany shoppers during their visit.

The charity is now appealing for new volunteers to support their efforts and is hosting an open day next week as part of a recruitment drive.

The open day is on Wednesday, April 19 between 10am and 3pm at Shopmobility’s offices at the rear of Sainsbury’s and next to the entrance from its car park.

It says it needs more volunteers who could help for as little as “an hour a week to help someone get their shopping”.
