Cabinet renews its commitment to build a fairer, compassionate and more sustainable borough

Council Leader Simon Hogg and his team of senior colleagues will continue to build an administration that’s based on fairness, compassion and sustainability.

Councillor Hogg said: “My team is determined to deliver for the people of Wandsworth. We are committed to putting our residents and communities at the front and centre of everything we do.

“We are building a fairer, compassionate and more sustainable borough, with better services across the board for the same low council tax.”

There will be one new face in the cabinet with Roehampton ward councillor Jenny Yates joining as Cabinet Member for Transport. She will lead the council’s efforts to support active travel, promote public transport and improve roads and pavements across the borough.

Jenny Yates said: “I’m delighted to be appointed to serve in the cabinet. Transport is a vital area of importance which affects the daily lives of all residents and businesses in Wandsworth.”

Councillor Yates will replace Clare Fraser who is stepping down from her cabinet role. Councillor Hogg said: “I’d like to pay tribute to Clare Fraser for her dedication to improving transport in Wandsworth and for landmark achievements delivering a whole range of travel improvements including new School Streets, more bike hangars and launching our Future Streets strategy to encourage walking and cycling.”

He added: “I look forward to welcoming Jenny Yates to the cabinet. I know she will build on our achievements so far, play a leading role in improving transport across the borough, and help us deliver our climate change commitments.”

All other cabinet posts remain unchanged. Members of the cabinet are as follows:

Councillor Kemi Akinola - Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for the Voluntary Sector, Business Engagement and Culture. Responsible for building strong links with our voluntary and community sector, working with our businesses and employers, and promoting a strong cultural offer for the borough,

Councillor Angela Ireland - Cabinet Member for Finance. Responsible for all areas of Town Hall finances, including budget setting and making sure departments are financially efficient and effective.

Councillor Aydin Dikerdem - Cabinet Member for Housing. Responsible for the council's housing stock, regeneration programmes and delivering new council homes for local residents and their families.

Councillor Judi Gasser - Cabinet Member for Environment. Responsible for recycling, waste collection, street cleaning, the management and maintenance of the borough’s parks as well as making sure Wandsworth does everything it can as a borough to tackle the climate change emergency.

Councillor Kate Stock - Cabinet Member for Children. Responsible for all Council services relating to children and young people across all Wandsworth communities.

Councillor Graeme Henderson - Cabinet Member for Health. Supporting Wandsworth’s older and most vulnerable residents to ensure they receive high quality social care, spearheading the borough’s public health initiatives and improving community safety in the borough.

Councillor Yates will take over as Cabinet Member for Transport at the Annual Meeting of the Council on May 24.
