Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL)  grant

The Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) is funding that is derived from charges levied on new developments within the London Borough of Wandsworth. Its purpose is to mitigate the impact of development by reinvesting a portion of these funds into local infrastructure projects that directly benefit the community.

Community and voluntary sector organisations, including charities, trusts, schools, colleges, and universities, are invited to apply for funding to support initiatives that enhance access to sport, physical activity, and wellbeing across the borough.

Funding available

The NCIL fund is structured into two grant streams, the Community Access Grant and the Women and Girls Grant, each offering both revenue and capital funding options.  Each grant stream is governed by specific eligibility criteria and application deadlines, and successful applicants are expected to provide evidence of expenditure and impact.

All funded projects must acknowledge the support of Wandsworth Council and align with the broader objectives of the Wandsworth Moves Together Strategy, which seeks to create inclusive, sustainable, and community-led opportunities for physical activity across the borough.

Community Access Grant

The Community Access Grant is designed to improve opportunities for underrepresented and disadvantaged groups to engage in sport and physical activity.

The Community Access Revenue Grant supports the delivery of new programmes and activities, including staffing, outreach, equipment, venue hire, and marketing. Applicants may receive up to 100% of project costs, with a maximum award of £5,000. Projects must be delivered within Wandsworth and completed within one year.

The Community Access Capital Grant supports infrastructure improvements such as renovations, accessibility upgrades, and structural enhancements that remove barriers to participation. This grant follows a two-stage application process, beginning with an Expression of Interest and followed by a full application upon invitation. Projects must demonstrate how they address the pressures of local development and include evidence of consultation, planning permissions, and ownership or lease agreements.

Women and Girls Grant

The Women and Girls Grant specifically targets the enhancement of sport and physical activity opportunities for women and girls in Wandsworth.

The Women and Girls Revenue Grant funds programme delivery and engagement activities tailored to female participants, with a maximum award of £5,000 and up to 100% of project costs covered. All applications must address at least one of eight identified barriers to participation: affordability, information, psychological barriers, representation, safety, secondary school girls, settings, and wellbeing.

The Women and Girls Capital Grant supports physical improvements to facilities and equipment that promote inclusive access for women and girls. Like the Community Access Capital Grant, it involves a two-stage application process, beginning with an Expression of Interest and followed by a full application upon invitation, and requires applicants to demonstrate how their project offsets the impact of development in the local area.
