Brighter Living Fair 2024

The Brighter Living Fair events are for adults looking for care and support services in Wandsworth that promote healthy, safe and independent lifestyles.

Once again, this year we are working with local organisations to host lots of community events between Tuesday 1 to Thursday 31 October. This coincides with International Older People’s Day and Silver Sunday to celebrate active lifestyles and being connected within your local community.

A timetable of events will be published in September to help you plan which events you might like to attend.

Brighter Living Fund

The Brighter Living Fund was set up in 2021 to support organisations across the borough to host their own Brighter Living event. With the aim to celebrate older residents and to make them aware of the wealth of opportunities that exist in their communities to help them stay physically active, socially connected, and fully supported to live healthy, happy lives. This year’s theme is Physical Activity

Through partnership working and engagement with residents we have produced a local Health and Care Plan featuring themes of Start Well, Live Well and Age Well. Find out more about our Health and Care Plan and Physical Activity Plan

Apply for funding

Organisations and groups who work with older people and adults in the borough are invited to apply for up to £250 of funding to host their own event.  You will need to outline what you plan to do to celebrate International Older People’s Day or Silver Sunday and how these celebrations will promote physical activity and healthy independent lifestyles.

Events will need to take place between Tuesday 1 to Thursday 31 October 2024.

Ideas for events include:

  • Organising activity ‘taster’ sessions that your organisation typically offers, to display the range of options available for older people and adults in the community
  • Encouraging people to get active in their local community by hiring a yoga or dance instructor
  • Organise an event designed especially for adults with sight and /or hearing impairment
  • Hosting a healthy cook a long, highlighting how food and nutrition relate to overall health
  • Organising a group walk around local parks and nature trails
  • Hosting expert led workshops on how to safely maintain physical health, even with limited mobility

The deadline for Brighter Living Fund applications is midnight on Sunday 4 August.

Funding will then be decided based upon on key criteria being met and ensuring there is an even spread of events across the borough.
