Alton wider development area masterplan

Following the positive result in the Alton regeneration plans ballot, we will be going ahead with the detailed design of four key areas of the Alton Estate.

1. Danebury neighbourhood

We will create:

• New homes to replace the blocks on Harbridge Avenue, Kingsclere Close and the northern side of Danebury Avenue, all surrounding a new central green square
• A new community square and events space west of Allbrook House (currently the ramp and carpark location)
• A new block of homes to the north of the square with additional ground floor shop or community space

2. Danebury retail parade

We will build a replacement parade of shops with flats above, including a larger supermarket and an improved link to the Roehampton Sports and Fitness Centre.

3. Portswood Place

We will create a new community facility for the services currently based at 166/168 Roehampton Lane (the Family Hub) and the Danebury GP Practice.

4. 166/168 Roehampton Lane

We will build two new blocks of flats and a terrace of family homes.

Next steps

We will be hosting a series of co-design workshops, exhibitions and meetings where you can give feedback on the emerging designs.

We aim to submit a planning application for all four areas of redevelopment in spring 2027. This is likely to be a hybrid application which will cover the first phases to be delivered in more detail than others. We expect a Committee decision in spring 2028.
