Fontley Way

New homes are planned for Fontley Way on the site of the former One O’clock Club.

The scheme gained planning approval in September 2020. The development is due to be completed in spring 2024.

The development on Fontley Way has been formally named Gerard House, after the former English poet and writer, Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844 - 1889), who lived and studied in Manresa House on the Alton Estate.

Current proposals

The proposal provides fourteen 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom homes with parking and outdoor space.

Key features of the new development include:

  • High quality architecture and landscape design to complement the existing neighbourhood
  • Private outdoor space in the form of a balcony or garden
  • Homes designed with future maintenance costs in mind
  • Two of the maisonettes will be designed for wheelchair users, and every home will be designed to be adaptable and suitable to meet the specific needs of existing and future residents
  • Fitted kitchens and bathrooms, sufficient space for furniture and storage, double glazed windows, and refuse/recycling facilities
  • Secure cycle parking provided on site and 10 new car parking spaces

Four-bedroom maisonettes

The two four-bedroom maisonettes will be on the ground floor. The maisonettes will be similar to a traditional two storey home with a private rear garden as well as access to a communal garden. The floor plan below is indicative of the new four-bedroom maisonettes.

Three-bedroom maisonettes

There will also be five three-bedroom maisonettes on the ground floor (including the two wheelchair units) and seven three-bedroom maisonettes on the second floor.

These maisonettes will again be similar to a traditional two storey home with a garden or private balcony and access to a communal garden The floorplan below is indicative of the new three-bedroom maisonettes.
