Antisocial behaviour and its effect on council tenancies
Our Antisocial Behaviour Housing Policy Statement 2022-2025 sets out our commitment to tackling antisocial behaviour and making your block, estates and communities safer.
The Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 defines antisocial behaviour (ASB) as:
a) Conduct that has caused, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to any person,
b) Conduct capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to a person in relation to that person’s occupation of residential premises, or
c) Conduct capable of causing housing-related nuisance or annoyance to any person.
As set out in your Tenancy Conditions, we will take reasonable steps to investigate your complaints and will take action where appropriate. We will do all we can to help solve any problems with your neighbours and will take firm action against neighbours who cause a nuisance. We will not tolerate antisocial behaviour from any person living in or visiting a council managed property.
You, your lodgers, friends, relatives or any other visitors must not:
- Cause a nuisance to others living in the local area
- Interfere with the peace, comfort or convenience of others
- Damage property belonging to others including council property
- Use the property for illegal activity
- Threaten, harass or use violence towards others, including neighbours, council employees, and those living in the same property as you.
Examples of antisocial behaviour which might cause us to take legal action against you are:
- Threatening or using violence
- Noise nuisance
- Damaging property
- Dealing, buying or using drugs
- Dumping rubbish
- Antisocial drinking in public
- Vandalism and graffiti
- Domestic disputes, including shouting
- Not keeping pets under control
- Abandoning cars or causing car nuisance
