Defibrillator Location and Maintenance Plan
We have introduced a plan to ensure defibrillators are available, accessible, and properly maintained.
Submission of defibrillator requests for buildings we own
If you need a defibrillator for a building we own, our Facilities Management team can give advice and guidance.
Requests for defibrillators that we fund should be submitted to our Customer Services team.
How we assess defibrillator requests
We asses defibrillator requests on:
- Strategic need
- Population density
- Distance to the nearest defibrillator
If the building isn't one we own, charities may be able to help with funding or support. Find out about charities that assist with installing defibrillators.
Our defibrillator map
We update our defibrillator map every three months to show new installations and removals.
Logging defibrillators
We record all defibrillators we own in our asset management system, including:
- Newly installed devices
- Devices registered with emergency services via The Circuit
For defibrillators in buildings we don't own, if you spot a problem you should:
- Tell staff at the location of the AED, or
- Report it via the Yellow Card scheme
Maintenance and compliance of defibrillators
We carry out regular checks and maintenance on defibrillators in buildings we own to make sure they work property.
Our asset management system is updated often and used to track:
- Defibrillator locations
- Maintenance schedules
- Compliance status
For defibrillators in buildings we don't own, the provider is responsible for maintenance and compliance.
Public Liability Insurance
Our Public Liability Insurance covers defibrillators installed on our property. It protects against claims for injury or property damage caused by our activities or assets.
Key aspects:
- Our insurance covers claims from third parties who suffer injury or damage due to our services, infrastructure, or negligence
- Claims must include evidence of negligence and are assessed by our insurers
- Our current insurer is QBE, with claims handled by Gallagher Bassett.
- Claims from solicitors must be submitted through the Ministry of Justice Claims Portal using portal ID: D00019
- There is no automatic right to compensation - you must show we were at fault

Legal considerations
- Compliance: Defibrillator installations must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Liability: We do not accept liability for misused defibrillators, but we will ensure clear signage and easy access
