Keep Independent Through Enablement (KITE)
Keep Independent Through Enablement (KITE), also known as 'reablement’, is a short-term free of charge service for people who have either been taken ill suddenly, had an accident or are simply growing older and struggling to do daily activities at home independently.
What is reablement?
Enablement (or reablement) is a strengths-based, person-centred service that promotes and maximises independence and wellbeing.
It focuses on setting personal goals and supporting people to build or rebuild the confidence, ability, and skills they need to live as independently as possible - especially after illness, injury, or a decline in health. The aim is to reduce the need for long-term care, prevent hospital readmissions, and help people feel safe and confident staying in their own homes for longer.
We provide and run the service. There are two commissioned homecare providers utilised within reablement; Aspire Care Services and Eleanor Nursing and Social Care. KITE is our in-house homecare provider and support residents living in the West of the borough.
KITE employs specially-trained reablement staff and works with occupational and physiotherapy services to help you to regain your confidence and get back to doing as much as possible for yourself.
Where possible, we aim to help you become fully independent of any services. But, for tasks you cannot manage independently, we will help you decide what support and care you will need in the longer term.
