Request for Information - WBC-FOI-00629 - Schools & Mental Health

I refer to your request for information received on 01 February 2023. Please accept our apologies for the delay. Please see the information below in response to your request: -

1.What funding is London Borough of Wandsworth designating towards the wellbeing of teachers and schooling staff in your local area?

In terms of staff wellbeing, the SCPS used part of the covid related grants (Wellbeing for Return and Wellbeing for Recovery) for staff support during the pandemic. Since then some schools commission our service to offer their staff wellbeing support, others get it from the Education Wellbeing Teams Mental Health Support Teams (previously known as Mental Health Support or Trailblazer teams). We also provide emotional support when a Critical Incident has taken place (death of a student or member of staff or another traumatic event)

2.If possible, could you please send me a relevant name/email/contact number of someone in charge of mental health within schools in your local area?

Robert Dyer, Commissioning Lead for mental health, SWLICB, email: Robert.Dyer@swlondon.nhs.uk

3. What funding is being designated to schools, specifically for student wellbeing in your local area?

We have council funding for a range of services for young people including contracts for the Young People's Health Service in schools (counselling and support around mental health and wellbeing) jointly commissioned by NHS and LA. We also have some contracts with VCS services who work with children's wellbeing.

4.What is the number of schools/teachers that London Borough of Wandsworth provides funding for?

There are 73 state funded mainstream schools in the borough. The headcount of teachers across all maintained schools in November 2022 was: 1134.
