Subject: Arch 42 Nine Elms

Reference: WBC-FOI-00575

In December 2020 the Council carried out a consultation for designs in arch 42 Nine Elms. In February 2021 the council announced it had commissioned Architecture practice Projects Office with their co-design project, 'Tunnel Visions' to turn Arch 42 into a bold local landmark which was to be completed in Autunm 2021, this has however not happened. I then submitted an FOI and the response indicated that works were to commence in autumn 2022 however this didn't happen again.

Please can you send me any documentation that the Council holds in relation to why this project has not gone ahead and as to what has happened to the funding that was earmarked for this project?

Your Request:

Please can you send me any documentation that the Council holds in relation to why this project has not gone ahead and as to what has happened to the funding that was earmarked for this project?

Our Response:

The Arch 42 Gateways project remains very much an active project within the Nine Elms 'Key Gateways' budget line in Wandsworth Council's capital programme. Unfortunately, the delivery of the project has been delayed due budgetary pressures with increases in some of the individual sub-contractor costs being higher than originally foreseen. The wider inflationary pressures in the economy and rising material and labour costs within the construction industry generally are also a factor in the increase in project costs. The Council is actively managing these issues so the project can still be delivered as originally conceived and within the agreed budget envelope. Due to commercial confidentiality, it is not possible to share further details but the project is now expected to be delivered in Spring / Summer 2023 and the Council will notify local residents and stakeholders once a start date for works has been agreed.
